Sierra Leone Civil war
The Sierra Leone Civil War began on 23 March 1991. It started when the Revolutionary United Front (with support from the special forces of Charles Taylor’s National Patriotic Front of Liberia) intervened in Sierra Leone in an attempt to overthrow the Joseph Momohs' government. The internal conflict involved multiple ethnic groups and resulted in an estimated 15,000 deaths from 1991 through 1996. By early 1999 estimates of the number of dead in the rebel war ranged upward from 50,000. At different times estimates of the number of displaced people were as high as 2.5 million deaths. In 2001 Un deployed soldiors into Sierra to end the civil war.
